This GCSE Higher Tier Maths course is designed to help you develop strong mathematical problem-solving skills, preparing you for grades 6–9 in the final exam. The course covers advanced topics in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics, building on the Foundation Tier knowledge. Please note, you're expected to have a solid knowledge of the Foundation GCSE curriculum before taking part in this course.
What you'll learn
Session 1: Recap of Key Number Skills Indices, standard form, surds (rationalising denominators). Recurring decimals & fractions conversions.
Session 2: Expanding and Factorising Expressions Double brackets, difference of two squares, factorising quadratics.
Session 3: Solving Quadratic Equations Factorisation, completing the square, quadratic formula. Applications to real-world problems.
Session 4: Linear & Quadratic Graphs Sketching quadratic curves, finding roots and turning points.
Session 5: Exponential, Reciprocal & Trigonometric Graphs Transformations of graphs (translations, reflections, stretches).
Session 6: Solving Simultaneous Equations Algebraic & graphical solutions (linear and quadratic).
Session 7: Solving Inequalities Linear & quadratic inequalities, number line representations.
Session 8: Sequences Arithmetic & geometric sequences, nth-term formula.
Session 9: Algebraic Proofs Proof techniques, inequalities, and identities.
Session 10: Direct & Inverse Proportion Solving problems algebraically & graphically.
Session 11: Compound Growth & Decay Exponential growth/decay problems, real-life applications.
Session 12: Pythagoras & Trigonometry Advanced trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent, solving triangles).
Session 13: Trigonometric Applications Sine Rule, Cosine Rule, area of a triangle using sine.
Session 14: Circle Theorems Key theorems, exam-style proof questions.
Session 15: Vectors Vector notation, addition/subtraction, geometric proof questions.
Session 16: Probability Laws & Tree Diagrams Independent & dependent events, conditional probability.
Session 17: Statistics & Data Interpretation Histograms, cumulative frequency, box plots, averages from grouped data.
